I now live in the Republic of Georgia, which, bizarrely is copying the US approach to medical care. The US has by far the most expensive system, but it doesn't have the best outcomes. The most important factor in the US debate on healthcare is misinformation and fear:
"but if I go to the doctor under universal healthcare, I'd have to surrender my gun at the doctors office, right?"
"I heard that the if I go to that doctor, I'd have to get approval from a death panel before getting service."
If the debate remains on an emotional level, it will remain hopeless.
